Nano470 Overlay Suncatcher

No UV LIGHT NEEDED

Lesson 1:

Making a suncatcher with Nano470 Decorative Glass to Glass Adhesive
Step 1

Materials you need.
             12” of thin fishing twine.

Clear piece of standard glass (can be cut from any old window)

For this project I choose a 4” square. You can choose any shape you want.
You can get a small piece of glass at a glass replacement shop and they
will cut it.  Very inexpensive, if not free..

4 -1” squares of beveled glass

4 -1” by 2” colored stained glass (any color) I choose Green
1- 2” square beveled glass (I choose a tinted green)

             Nano470 glass to glass adhesive

Desk light or some kind of fluorescent light bulbs (I used a 13 watt spiral)

White 3m scouring pad (made for glass cook top stoves) will not scratch glass.

             Detergent like ajax or dawn.

 Drying towel

You should use rubber gloves since adhesive is a mild irritant.  Nano470 will not glue your fingers or glove

to each other or your project.

Lesson Suncatcher Stained Glass

Wear goggle in case you break the glass.
I like to drill my hole in both pieces of glass before I bond, drilling the corner bevel and then the standard glass. Pushing hard will break the glass.

Use a diamond bit in a drill or Dremel tool big enough to get a small fishing twine through.
If you don’t want to drill you can buy beveled glass already drilled. Any glass supply house will have predrilled.
Fit your entire piece to the plain glass.  If fit is right you’re ready to bond the glass.

Lesson Glass Suncatchers No Foil

Make sure everything is clean and free of lint.

Add your adhesive down the middle of first piece. (larger piece may need some on corners).  Add just enough for it to flow out from between the 2 pieces of glass. (It will be like putting water between 2 pieces of glass then holding them together.) Turn on your light but not right on your project.
Slowly lower from one end, this will force the adhesive to one side and push the air out.
Still holding the piece exactly where you want it hold over the light. Try not to move it after you get over the light.  You can wipe off with a lint free cloth or tissue. (makes final cleaning easier)

Work your way down one side one piece at a time.

Once you get one side cured then you can add the rest. Working your way across to the other side. Tilt the project pieces just a little so that the glass you have already bonded will act as a stop. (Helps keep it in line)

Now that you have all the pieces bonded.   Wipe the excess off.  Take it to a sink add some detergent, scrub with a white scouring pad until all the adhesive is off.
Rinse and dry.  When I finish cleaning I like to lay my project back under the light or lay in the sun for a few minutes while I clean up my tools.
If you want your project to shine use some car wax (I use mother of pearl) this will clean and shine the glass.  This makes a big difference in how it looks.

No Foiling Glass Finished Suncatcher

There you have it, a shiny suncatcher.  Not to hard was it.
Now that you have done this little project. Let your creative mind work. You can do all kinds of simple project.
Make glass mosaics, add bevels mirrors, shower doors, windows, doors the possibilities are endless.
Just remember one side has to be clear glass. Always add light from the clear side.
